Starting with an Electricity Bill: Learning About Energy and Everyday Saving Actions

On June 4, 2026, Billion Group’s SDGs Multi-Stars Seed Projects visited DunHua Elementary School in Taipei City to continue its campus energy education program. The activity helped students learn from daily life and understand global warming, energy issues, renewable energy, and the importance of saving energy and reducing carbon emissions.

Dunhua Elementary School is located in the heart of Taipei’s East District. Since its founding in 1958, the school has continued to promote quality education with the support of its principals, teachers, and parents. The school aims to create a joyful, healthy, active, excellent, and innovative learning environment, while balancing technology, humanities, global vision, and local values.

Unlike previous large group sessions, this activity was held in a single classroom. This smaller setting allowed Billion’s ESG volunteers to interact more closely with students. The children had more chances to ask questions, share their thoughts, and discuss how energy is connected to their everyday lives.

During the class, Billion’s ESG volunteers started with global warming and climate change. They guided students to think about how energy use affects the environment. The volunteers also introduced renewable and clean energy, including solar power, wind power, and hydropower. Through simple examples, students learned that energy is not only found in textbooks, but is closely related to their homes, schools, and city life.

This activity also used an electricity bill as a learning tool. Students brought electricity bills from home and looked at their household power use together. They learned how electricity fees are calculated and began to understand that using energy comes with a cost. Through this hands-on activity, students learned the link between electricity use and daily spending, and started to think about how to save energy at home.

At the end of the activity, students joined an interactive game called “Find the Energy Monsters at Home.” They looked for home appliances that may use more electricity and discussed simple ways to save energy, such as turning off lights, unplugging devices on standby, using natural light, and adjusting air-conditioning habits. These small actions helped students see how energy saving and carbon reduction can begin at home.

This classroom activity made energy education more practical and closer to daily life. Starting with one electricity bill and a simple home observation task, students began to build awareness and responsibility toward energy use. Moving forward, Billion Group’s SDGs Multi-Stars Seed Projects will continue to focus on quality education and practical learning. The program will visit more schools, help children understand energy and sustainability, and plant the seeds of energy saving and carbon reduction in everyday life.
