while launching the world’s first all-in-one SSL VPN Security Gateway/Router
Billion Electric Co. Ltd. (Taiex: #3027), a leading network equipment provider from Asia Pacific rim, today announced in advance of Computex Taipei 2006 to introduce full series of IPTV Gateways for the residential and SOHO markets. The entire product range widely includes ADSL2+ (Triple Play) IPTV gateway (the BiPAC 7300 series and BiPAC 74xx series), Fiber To The Home (FTTH) IPTV Gateway (the BiGuard 2 and BiPAC 6404VP), ADSL2+ Coax / Phoneline IPTV Gateway (the BiPAC 7402HCG and 7402HPG), and Bonded ADSL2+ IPTV Gateway (the BiPAC 7522(G) series). In addition, Billion also pre-launches the BiGuard S10 – the world’s first device of all-in-one SSL VPN security gateway with firewall and router functions integrated for the SOHO and SMB markets.
According to the forecast of Multimedia Research Group, “The number of IPTV subscribers worldwide will be expected to grow from 4.3 million in 2005 to 36.8 million in 2009.” Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is a kind of digital television service provided by telecom operators or broadband service providers delivering broadcast video signals to subscribers by using broadband connection over Internet Protocol (IP). Viewers or subscribers must have a computer with media player software installed or an IPTV Set-Top Box to send or receive real-time streaming requests. Users can, therefore, choose IPTV programs and channels provided by content providers while still enjoying high-speed Internet access and VoIP services.
Service providers and telecom operators are increasingly looking to Internet protocol television (IPTV) deployment as their key revenue stream in delivering value added services, such as video on demand (VOD) and digital broadcast TV over the DSL or FTTH broadband infrastructure.
“Digital home entertainment such as IPTV is not only expected as a growing demand driven by the evolving technology, but also the mobility, the convenience, and the accessibility it adds to users. In response to this, Billion develops a wide range of IPTV product series with advanced software features including IGMP Proxy/Snooping functions, Quality of Service mechanism, VLAN and ADSL PVC LAN/WAN network configurations to deliver high-quality video content over the broadband network to users.” “In 2006, IPTV product development becomes one of Billion’s product focuses in the home networking segment. We also successfully received a real demand for IPTV services in the US and North European market. We have seen a big picture and are well prepared for the next generation of home networking broadband services.” says Mr. Chen, CEO of Billion Electric Co. Ltd.
Billion’s ADSL2+ (Triple Play) IPTV gateway includes BiPAC 7300 series and BiPAC 74xx series. These product series support high-speed ADSL2+ standard with downstream rate up to 24Mbps. Featured with the Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Snooping and VLAN technology, the ADSL2+ (Triple Play) IPTV gateway series can manage multicast traffic and forward video streams to specific ports, which significantly saves bandwidth of the whole network.
Fiber To The Home (FTTH) means a broadband telecommunications system operating on fiber-optic cables for delivering multimedia services to homes. Billion’s iBusiness Security Gateway - BiGuard 2 and BiPAC 6404VP, VoIP Broadband Firewall Router, are all-in-one FTTH IPTV gateway that features a RJ-45 Ethernet WAN port for connecting to fiber-optic cables or DSL/Cable broadband devices to deliver Triple Play services to home and SOHO users. The BiGuard 2 features IGMP Snooping for IPTV services and SIP pass-through for VoIP protocol. Furthermore, the device supports up to 2 IPSec VPN tunnels for creating a secure remote access of multiple site-to-site encrypted private connections over the Internet. The BiPAC 6404VP supports SIP standard enabling cost-saving VoIP calls. The router device offers dual lines to connect with existing telephone sets for VoIP calls making and one additional FXO port for making or receiving calls through PSTN Fixed-line. Also, the world-leading Gateway feature “Least Cost Routing” enables users to choose the most economical rate of VoIP calls provided by Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSP).
ADSL2+ Coax/Phoneline IPTV gateway - the BiPAC 7402H series (BiPAC 7402HCG and BiPAC 7402HPG) featuring “HomePNA3.0 over Coax” and “HomePNA3.0 over Phoneline” is also another product focus for Triple Play services. The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA 3.0) is the latest home networking standard. With this technology, the BiPAC 7402H series supports up to 128Mbps high-speed transmission rate for IPTV and multimedia broadband applications. The BiPAC 7402H series enables home and SOHO users to connect the existing coaxial cable or phoneline network at home to the router for high-speed Internet services. By utilizing this plug-and-play device, users do not need to make extra efforts to re-build their home network environment or additional cable wiring. Powered by Quality of Service (QoS), the BiPAC 7402H series allows users to control and optimize the bandwidth of real-time data transmission (audio and video) and ensures better quality of data traffic without experiencing crawl speed or video delay. What’s even better is you can benefit from strong firewall security with DoS prevention and SPI for better protection.
BiPAC 7522(G) series is an advanced Bonded ADSL2+ IPTV Gateway, featuring VPN firewall router functions and the bonding technology. The device is perfectly designed for home or office users looking for increased bandwidth, cost effective solution and high level of secure data communications with 16 IPSec VPN tunnels support. Users can establish a private encrypted tunnel over the Internet to ensure a secure transmission between two or more sites. The superb bonding technology is capable of combining two independent ADSL2+ lines to form a higher-bandwidth connection. Users can take advantage of this technology and enjoy value-added applications and programs provided by service providers while maximizing the data rate of bandwidth utilization.
In addition, Billion will also launch the BiGuard S10 – the world’s first gateway which fully integrates SSL VPN solution as well as firewall and router functions into one box to cater to the needs of SOHO and small and medium sized businesses (SMB) requiring secure, cost-effective and clientless remote access to the corporate network. The BiGuard S10 supports up to 10 SSL VPN concurrent sessions for remote users, mobile workers and business partners to enjoy a secure and easy-to-manage remote access to the corporate network via HTTPS with a web browser from anywhere like branch office, hotel, home laptop, Cyber Café, or even public kiosk. There is no need to pre-install VPN client software, and thus dramatically saves configuration efforts and maintenance.
The BiGuard S10 also features a number of unique SSL VPN applications. The Network Extender Technology allows you to fully access your office resources anywhere as if you never leave the office. You can remotely access the files in your computer, desktop or PDA; it is just like you are using a computer in your corporate network. The Transport Extender Technology enables specific users from remote sites through SSL VPN Tunnels to connect to the corporate network to access services or applications that are configured by IT administrators. Therefore, the remote user does not have to do specific settings in the web portal to make the service work. The My Network Places is just like Network Neighborhood in the Microsoft Windows operating system. From your home computer, you can connect to My Network Places and access information inside the office. The Application Proxy supports most commonly used applications such as FTP, RDP (Terminal Service, Remote Desktop Protocol), VNC (Virtual Network Control), HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, CIFS (folder sharing) and Telnet through web-based interface. Users do not need to pre-install any client software of applications you intend to download and share. Moreover, the BiGuard S10 provides authorized users with the easy-to-manage Personalized Web Portal, ensuring a secure connection with encryption, access policy, authorization, and authentication mechanisms. Each user can clearly see all of the applications that are allowed to access in the Personalized Web Portal.
According to the product roadmap, Billion plans to roll out the BiPAC 6404VP, BiPAC 7402H series, BiPAC 7522(G) and BiGuard S10 to the market together with the first customer shipment in the 3rd quarter of 2006.
